Confluence without stacking five indicators
Two or three independent reasons for a level beat a crowded panel of matching oscillators.
Confluence is often misunderstood as “more lines until the chart agrees with me.” In timing work we treat confluence as independent evidence that a level matters: prior swing, round number that already reacted, and a measured move objective that lands nearby, for example.
Oscillators that are mathematically tied to the same price series rarely count as independent. Two moving averages and RSI flashing together can still be one idea wearing three colours. Prefer reasons that would still be visible on a clean candlestick chart printed in grey.
A workable entry checklist from the room:
- Level identified from structure (swing, range boundary, or gap fill).
- Trigger defined (retest hold, engulfing rejection, or break-and-hold of a minor swing).
- Invalidation placed where the structure thesis dies.
- Exit sketched for target and for time decay.
If step 1 needs five overlays to look convincing, the level is probably soft. Soft levels produce soft timing. Strip the chart, mark by hand, and only then decide whether the entry is ready.
